Doc Brown – voracious reader

Before the meeting supporter/rapper/actor/comedian local bloke Doc Brown sent this message:

Born and bred and broke in Brent, I doubt very much I could have become the voracious reader and professional writer that I became without the unlimited access to books I was granted by Willesden and Kensal Rise libraries as a youngster. My sister, the Novelist Zadie Smith reaped the same benefits. Please please please keep libraries for the community. Regards,

Ben Bailey Smith, AKA Doc Brown x

New library centre – FOCL are tenants

On 12th November Brent Planning Committee approved the application to demolish the building that has served as Cricklewood Library since the 1920s, and build a new mixed use development. The new four storey development will have a community space on the ground floor, sharing the building with six flats.

Friends of Cricklewood Library have been named as tenants of the community space, pending legal agreements, and we intend to run a library service, making the most of using the space by making sure it is adaptable and can be rented out to community groups for activities. We’ve got exciting plans/ideas, and a strong team – and there is a lot of talent and energy in the community to draw on.

A big thank you to everyone who has supported the campaign to keep our local library. There is a lot of work to do – but what wonderful chance to run a library/community centre and keep it right here. Please let us know if you would like to be involved – fill out the form below, or get in touch by email info@cricklewoodlibrary.org.uk
