The Lease is Signed

It’s officially the end of the beginning. We’ve agreed the terms of, and signed the lease with All Souls College. Now the work on fitting out the library that you’ve all been waiting for for so long can finally begin.

Work will begin on site week beginning 24 June, and is scheduled to take four months. We’d love to be open by Christmas, but for this we’re going to need your help.

We have an Amazon wishlist – can you help us out by buying us something we need? You can find our wishlist here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201503180

While you’re shopping on Amazon, don’t forget to shop using smile.amazon.co.uk and choose us as your charity.

If you’re excited at this news, and want to get involved, please volunteer on our website. We’re always looking for more hands on deck.

Funds Secured to Begin Completion Works on Library

We are over the moon to announce that we’ve been granted £125,000 by the Garfield Weston Anniversary Fund to pay for the finishing works on the library. The Garfield Weston Foundation is a family-founded charitable grant-making trust which supports a wide range of charitable activities across the UK. Established in 1958 by Willard Garfield Weston, the Foundation has donated over £960million, becoming one of the largest and most respected charitable institutions in the UK. In the last financial year the Foundation has donated over £62million. The Trustees are descendants of the founder and the Weston Family takes a highly active and hands-on approach. Over 1900 charities across the UK benefit each year from the Foundation’s grants.

We were chosen from over 2,200 applicants to the anniversary fund, which is completely amazing. Garfield Weston were particularly impressed by our level of proactivity and committment to supporting our local community.

The money will kick start the work that we’ve been dying to do for two years, ever since the building was completed. Now all we’re waiting for is a signed lease, which is in the hands of our landlords, Octavia Housing, and the lawyers. We had hoped to be in by Christmas, but it’s looking like work will start in the new year. But this is a real shot in the arm for the campaign. Thanks for sticking with it guys! Our community’s in it for the long haul!

If you want to be sure to hear about how we spend this money, make sure you head over to our mailing list and sign up. Monthly mailings always include a section on the library building.

Great Cricklewood Library Jumble Trail

There’s no easy way to say this. We need your money. Here’s why.

We need to raise £114,000 to reopen the library (and then some).

We’ve raised £60,000 on Spacehive.

We need another £50,000-ish

We have 40 days to do it in (before 25/9/17 – or we don’t get any of the money)

We know you love us, and that you really, really, want to see the library reopen on the old site at 152 Olive Road.
So here’s an opportunity to raise money for the library AND get rid of your old stuff at the same time.

Please join in our jumble sale trail. On Sunday 3 September, get yourselves out on your driveway or in your garage door with all the stuff you’ve been meaning to take to the charity shop for years (be honest!!! – you have, haven’t you??) and sell it off. And then donate a percentage of your profits to the library’s Spacehive campaign. A percentage could be 1%, or it could be 100% – it’s up to you. Whatever you pledge, we’ll be grateful.

If all of that is too much trouble, please just head over to Spacehive and give us some of your cold, hard cash. We’re not proud. If you’d rather not donate on line, we also accept cheques, payable to Friends of Cricklewood Library, and sent to 116 Olive Road, NW2 6UU.

Another Successful Fundraising Venture!

Our librarian, Steven Cary, took himself off to the Preston Road Library Table Day today, and sold off some pre-loved items in favour of the library. He made over £150! Here he is on the day, and with his well-earned cash.

Could you run a similar yard sale and give us (some of) the profits? All fundraising ideas welcome to help us reach our ambitious but achievable target.

CrickFest 2017

We had such a fantastic time at this year’s CrickFest at the weekend. We met loads of lovely new people, several of whom have volunteered to help with our campaign – take a bow, Dee, Gillian, Bernette and Nora.

We also raised over £130 in donations, and loads of you promised to pledge support for our crowdfunding bid at Spacehive, so it was a very successful day.

Hats off to Marie, Danny, Angela, Anne, Osita and the rest of the team who made it such fun and entertaining day.
