Crickle Grandparents

Do you help out with weekday childcare for your grandchildren, and take them to Gladstone Park or Cricklewood Library?

If you want to meet other grandparents in the area to arrange play dates in the park and possibly join a regular get-together, please email cricklewood.grandparents@gmail.com, and we’ll email you back with information on how to get involved (don’t worry, you won’t get added to a mailing list).

Great grandparents, nannies, and in fact anyone helping out with daytime childcare who feels part of the Grandparent or older generation are very welcome too.

Cricklereaders Juniors

We are very excited to announce that Cricklereaders Juniors, our book group for children aged 7-11, starts in September this year.

Reading for pleasure is an important skill for children and has more impact on their life chances than that of their socio-economic background. We’re all about reading for pleasure at Cricklewood Library, and are happy to announce we’ll be encouraging even more young readers to come in, browse around, find a book to enjoy and treasure, and have fun talking about their reading adventures with our group of talented and enthusiastic volunteers.

The group will be run by local parents and grandparents, and will take place on Friday afternoons from 23 September 2022. Places are limited, so to secure yours, sign up here.

Summer Reading Challenge 2022

The Summer Reading Challenge has dropped at the library! Come in and collect your Gadgeteer pack, start reading (anything you like!) and collect stickers and digital rewards to show your progress!

For parents, this is a great way of encouraging your children’s reading over the summer, and a great way of getting them off those electronic devices while still getting a bit of peace and quiet!

This year the Reading Agency have partnered with the Science Museum, so there’s loads of activities for inventive young minds to get involved in. Sign up online here and get cracking!

Tell Me a Story

We are delighted to announce that, as from first week in March, we’ll be offering a free story time session twice a week in the library, run by our crack team of story telling volunteers.

The session will take place on Thursdays, between 0930 and 1000. This session is suitable for pre-school children. On Fridays Tell Me a Story will happen between 1550 and 1620, and is for all ages.

Our volunteers are fully DBS checked.

Please note, numbers are limited to 10 children/parents (or carers) due to space constraints, so please arrive early to avoid disappointment. The volunteers will not wear masks as this would interfere with the story telling, but we would appreciate it if other adults could wear masks in line with the library’s current Covid-19 policy. Parents/carers should remain with their children at all times – this is not a drop off session.

As an added bonus, we’ll be offering a book borrowing session at the end of both story times. Come along and join the fun!

Oh, and Tell Me a Story is completely FREE!
