Crowdfunder to Support Creative Conversations ESOL Project

Creative Conversations is an informal and fun way for migrants, including refugees and asylum seekers, to improve their English language and literacy skills. The project delivers English classes alongside craft sessions where the students can practise their vocabulary and skills in conversations with their peers and teachers.

The projects aims to help students:

increase their understanding of English and give them the opportunity to speak and practise their language skills in an informal and enjoyable atmosphere
gain a sense of belonging and connection to the local community
increase understanding of life in the UK and to meet people of different ages and life experiences
communicate better with teachers, health care workers and other professionals
increase their support for their children’s learning both in school and at home
progress to further study, both of English at a higher level and of other subjects.

Fundraising Council of War

The Trustees of Friends of Cricklewood Library met for a council of war on Thursday to thrash out plans to raise the remaining £53,421 to reach our target of £114,908 by 25 September. We have reached 52% of our target, with 213 backers for our project, but with only 46 days to go to raise the remaining amount, it’s all hands on decks.

We are so close to reaching our target and having our library back – can you help make it happen? Email us if you can.

Another Successful Fundraising Venture!

Our librarian, Steven Cary, took himself off to the Preston Road Library Table Day today, and sold off some pre-loved items in favour of the library. He made over £150! Here he is on the day, and with his well-earned cash.

Could you run a similar yard sale and give us (some of) the profits? All fundraising ideas welcome to help us reach our ambitious but achievable target.

Mayor of London Pledges £40k to our Crowdfunding Campaign

The Trustees were at City Hall tonight to receive a pledge from the Mayor of London for our Crowdfunding Campaign. Campaign Chair Sally Long did an amazing and very persuasive pitch. There were 78 projects from all over London, and there was some pretty tough competition from some fantastic, inspiring projects. We’re very proud to say that we were awarded £40,000, the largest pledge made on the evening and we are very grateful for the Mayor’s confidence in our campaign and in our plans.

This takes us almost halfway there to our target of £118,000, together with your generous individual pledges. This really puts the pressure on now – if we don’t reach the total, we don’t get any of the money. Not one single penny. And we only have until 25 September to do this! PLEASE help us get there. Share our Spacehive page link with as many people as you can, and really encourage people to give whatever they can. It’s all or nothing!
